Macquarie University Revokes Degrees From Cheating Students

The fallout from the MyMaster cheating scandal continues.

Though there was concern back in April that students who had paid the MyMaster site to ghost-write their essays would escape punishment, the Sydney Morning Herald has confirmed several students have had their degrees revoked.

Macquarie University, who had been investigating 56 current and recently graduated students, have revoked the degrees of two students and prevented 10 others from graduating.

A spokesperson for Macquarie University confirmed 36 students had been found to have used MyMaster's services, which also included having ringers sit online tests on students' behalf. Each of them were handed fail grades in the units for which they submitted the purchased assignments.

Nearly 1000 students across 16 universities were found to have paid up to $800 for “fully referenced, ready-to-submit” assignments in 2014.
