The Nightmare Came True: Long Lost Siblings Find Each Other… On Tinder

It’s time to swipe the slate clean.

Long-separated siblings Erik de Vries and Josephine Egberts were just looking for love on dating app Tinder when they unwittingly matched with one another.

Before you run off to weep in the shower and pray the same never happens to you, hear the full, actually heart-warming story from the players themselves.

Speaking to the NL Times, Erik revealed how his parents parted ways in 1999, before the kids had even turned ten years old.

Erik and his twin brother Maarten moved to Belgium with their father, while Josephine remained in the Netherlands, eventually losing touch with one another completely.

Efforts to reconnect were fruitless, until Erik moved back to the Netherlands in 2008 and downloaded Tinder.

It was then Erik “matched” with Josephine. It took only a few innocent chats for him to suspect she was maybe - uh oh - his sis.

An in-person meeting was set, and confirmation was made. “When I saw him, it was suddenly very clear,” Josephine told the NL Times.

The fam is now fully reunited, and posed for the above portrait with Sjoerd Zwart, writer for dating review website Datingsite Kiezen. (I’m still trying to figure out whether Erik and Josephine should give Tinder five stars or zero stars for this encounter.)

See? This was just a totally lovely story and not the worst thing you’ve ever heard! But, it remains a cautionary tale: ask lots of questions when using Tinder.
