Logic’s Suicide Prevention Music Video for “1-800” Is the Best, Most Moving Thing You’ll See All Day

Logic’s heartbreaking hit “1-800-273-8255” has a new video, and it’s accumulating millions of views a day on YouTube, for good reason.

The tune, named after the suicide prevention hotline in the U.S., centers on the refrain, “I don’t want to be alive.” Now, the music video offers some backstory.

In it, 2017’s surprise music video MVP Don Cheadle plays the homophobic father of a young gay teenager (Coy Stewart). Wrestling with romantic feelings for another student (Modern Family’s Nolan Gould), the teen is driven out of home and into an exceptionally dangerous situation, until he makes a life-saving choice.

The song’s beautiful, and the video is ultimately warm and uplifting (with plenty more celebrity cameos, including that of the song’s co-performers, Alessia Cara and Khalid). It also comes at a significant time for Australians, as we face the upcoming postal survey on marriage equality.

Remember though, the song’s title is for the American suicide prevention hotline only.
