Living On Your Own As A 16-Year-Old High School Student | Student Stories

"I didn't want to admit that I was lonely."

Student Stories is a new series that puts young people in the spotlight. Every day, students face and overcome challenges in their personal lives. If you'd like to participate in a Student Stories piece, you can contact us at editor@studentedge.com.au.

Emily is in her fourth year of university, but remembers her last couple of years in high school all too well.

Aside from the stress of ATAR and general Year 12 anxieties, Emily was in a unique situation. When she was 16 years old, her parents moved to regional Australia.

It was too late to enrol in boarding school, so Emily lived alone in a townhouse in her latter high school years. No parents, no family, no support.

We sat down to hear about how she overcame the challenge and what she learned from it.
