Lindsay Lohan Had No Idea Who Gretel Killeen Was on “The Masked Singer”

How was she supposed to know?
If you tuned into the premiere of Channel 10’s The Masked Singer last night, it’s likely that you didn’t sleep too well. Whether it was the alien, the robot or Osher Gunsberg’s suit, the show provided enough nightmare fuel to last for months.
We’re not sure if we’ll ever recover.
While watching the show, several questions came to mind. The most obvious one: What darkness would drive a celebrity to willingly put on this utterly terrifying octopus’ outfit?
But on a more practical note, how is American judge Lindsay Lohan supposed to know any of the Aussie celebrities under the mask? When last night’s performer was unveiled, we witnessed the first of what will probably be many confused reactions from the judge.
The Octopus was the first to be unmasked. Despite delivering a sultry rendition of "Fame", it simply didn’t stack up to the Robot’s performance of James Bay's "Hold Back The River".
For a moment, we got excited. T-Pain won the American version, so we could actually have a well-known celebrity here. But after taking approximately 30 seconds to remove her headdress, the Octopus was revealed to be none other than… Gretel Killeen.

Hughesy joked that he should have known. Jackie O and Dannii Minogue couldn’t believe their eyes. Lindsay, on the other hand, clearly had absolutely no clue who the woman standing before her was, and we really can’t blame her.
The former Big Brother host hasn’t exactly been at the forefront of Australian pop-culture since around 2007, when the reality show wrapped up. If a 16-year-old Aussie today has likely never seen Gretel in their life, how was poor Lindsay supposed to know?
Of course, Twitter caught onto the judge’s confusion very quickly.

The first episode of "The Masked Singer" drew a metro audience of 1.162m, making it the most-watched program of the night. Given the impressive viewership, it seems likely that we're going to continue to see a whole lot more of Lindsay's confusion.
