Like Hello Kitty’s Cuteness, But Wish She Had More Rage? Meet Aggretsuko, Your New Hero

Hello Kitty has forever reigned as the queen of Sanrio exports.
She embodies 'kawaii'-ness (the Japanese word for 'cute') and simplicity, and for that, she's iconic.
But what she lacks is depth and range (yes, I know she's not real). That is probably why most people consider Hello Kitty as a brand (predominantly) for kids.
But Sanrio, the company behind her, has introduced a new character with an important trait that Hello Kitty lacks: substance.
Meet Aggretsuko: your new life mascot.

Aggretsuko, a red panda, is the antithesis of Hello Kitty, and something I can stan to.
Where Hello Kitty would probably smile politely at some condescension, Aggretsuko would hit up a karaoke bar and scream out some of her favourite death metal tracks.
Sanrio describes her as an office associate in her 20s, and in the prime of her life.
Her designer, Yeti, told the New York Times she's a reaction to the current state of the world.
"Aggretsuko is a symbol and expression of the pent-up stress and irritation that is rife in the world today," Yeti told the New York Times.
Only time will tell whether Aggretsuko has got the relatability to take over Hello Kitty's strong lead on the Sanrio market.
Until then, you're welcome.
