Les Murray Wants Australia To Resubmit World Cup Bid Following FIFA Arrests

Scandal has rocked the world’s leading football organisation and not even Olivia Pope could clean up the resulting mess.

Swiss police arrested seven current and former FIFA officials in Zurich yesterday, after US authorities charged the men with 47 counts of racketeering, conspiracy, bribery and corruption (to the tune of $150 million).

FIFA vice president Jeffrey Webb was among those nabbed.

Four additional individuals and two corporations have already pleaded guilty to the US Justice Department.

The arrests come before a scheduled ballot on FIFA boss Sepp Blatter’s leadership this Friday.

Sports commentator Les Murray has revealed his long-held suspicions that there had been underhand dealings in FIFA’s decision to give Qatar the 2022 World Cup.

"If it comes to pass and the courts rule that, in fact, some manipulation was made and bribes were taken, then I don't believe there's any other choice but to have a revote," Murray said.

"If there is a revote, I think Australia should bid again."

Former UEFA president Lennart Johansson is similarly calling for the 2018 and 2022 decisions to be overturned, and for England to replace Russia as the 2018 hosts.

“[England] haven't had it since 1966, and it's considered 'the motherland of football', whatever we might think. They are worthy of the attention." he said.
