FIFA President Sepp Blatter Resigns, Days After Re-Election

Just four days after being elected to a fifth term as president, FIFA boss Sepp Blatter has resigned.

Though announced suddenly, Blatter’s resignation is no surprise, considering the high profile raid of seven high-ranking FIFA officials in Switzerland last week.

US authorities charged the seven current and former FIFA officials with 47 counts of racketeering, conspiracy, bribery and corruption to the tune of $150 million.

According to ABC News (the American one), Blatter is now being investigated by the FBI too (though he has not been officially named as a target).

Blatter stood down at a press conference in Zurich, saying, “I love FIFA more than anything and I only want to do the best for football and FIFA.”

A new election is to be held, with recently-defeated Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan expected to stand again.
