Joe Hockey Kicks Off Budget Day With A Selfie

Budget Day is probably not Treasurer Joe Hockey’s favourite day of the year.

But that didn’t stop him from smiling when 16-year-old Anika Buining rushed his morning press conference demanding a selfie, as if he were some kind of teen idol.

(This is probably where the similarities between Joe Hockey and, say, Harry Styles come to an end.)

To be fair, the Hunter Valley Grammar student did politely ask for the photo opportunity first, replying with an elated “Yes” (or was that “YASSSSSS”?) after a surprised Hockey said, “Sure.”

We’ll see if there are more smiles to come once #Budget2015 is officially dropped.

This morning, the Treasurer told the press pack, following Anika's interruption, that his latest budget would focus "on helping Australians have a go."

According to ABC News, the market expects a deficit of $40 to $41 billion for the next financial year. Mr Hockey has only committed to reducing the deficit below the $40 billion mark, with the full figure to be announced with the launch of the budget this evening.
