Introducing "SCUM", the Video Game Where You Need to Poop and Pee Heaps

We know there’s one thing you’ve been crying out for in your video games: more pooping.

So, here comes SCUM, an exceptionally disturbing survival game that makes you responsible for every aspect of your physical performance.

That doesn’t just mean your character’s fitness either; we’re talking toilet breaks too.

SCUM, from Devolver Digital, was just released to Steam’s early access program, and it’s already one of the most watched games on Twitch.

The game takes place on Scum Island, and the premise is that you’re an escaped prisoner trying to stay alive on a kill-or-be-killed reality TV show.

Though some may chalk up its early success to the innovative gameplay or excessive violence, we choose to believe it’s because of the game’s outsized focus on where and when the characters take a s***.

"When it comes to your metabolism, remember that everything is connected," this introductory video explains, and they ain’t lying.

(Violence and coarse language warning.)

SCUM offers players an interface that tracks your caloric intake, muscle mass, stomach volume and other such stats, and what you put into your body affects each of those bars. (For example, if you don’t eat your carbs, you may get slower with each passing day; avoid veggies, and your eyesight declines.) It also counts your remaining teeth too; lose your teeth, and you’ve gotta start blending your meals.

Throughout the game, you’ll need to find food to eat (to, you know, not die), but you’ll have to reckon with metabolism as well, as in real life. Your characters digest their food—just like you!—and that means finding toilets (if you’re lucky) to, ahem, complete the digestive process.

Sometimes, you won’t get the luxury of finding a toilet in time, such as when you ignore your urgent 'alerts' to go urinate or drop a deuce. But this carries its own risk: other players can find you, based on where you leave your droppings.

If this is everything you’ve ever wanted in a game, well, we’re happy for you. It’s still in "Early Access" stage, so the game will likely change and evolve further, which, in a way, only makes us more nervous.
