Interview: Ryan Corr from Holding The Man

Ryan Corr isn't taking the significance of Holding the Man lightly.
The up-and-coming Aussie actor (previously of Packed to the Rafters and Not Suitable For Children) plays the late Timothy Conigrave in Neil Armfield's long-awaited adaptation of the beloved memoir Holding the Man.
Not only must Corr honour the legacy of Conigrave and his partner of fifteen years, John Caleo (played by Craig Stott in the film), he has to please the book's massive fanbase, who hold the text as one of Australia's most moving gay love stories and perhaps most important local document of the AIDS crisis.
That, and Corr also had to convincingly play Conigrave from the ages of 16 to 35.
We caught up with Corr this week to talk about Holding the Man's significance, working with "small fry" co-stars like Geoffrey Rush, Guy Pearce, Anthony LaPaglia and Kerry Fox, and the serendipitous timing of its release in the midst of Australia's marriage equality debate.
Holding the Man is in cinemas. It's rated MA15+ for strong sex scenes and nudity.
