If You Desperately Need to Chuck a Sickie, There’s Now an App for That

Because who wants to visit a GP when you’ve got a killer migraine?

Some days you’re feeling a bit worse for wear and suspect you’ve either got the flu or a prolonged insufferable headache.

You want to call in sick to school or work but you need a doctor's certificate. And you don’t have the energy to get to a GP.

Three Aussie pharmacists have answered your problems and created an app called “Sicky”, which allows you to video call with a pharmacist for free and receive a health assessment—straight from bed.

All you have to do is answer a few questions and the team will determine whether you’re too sick to work or study.

If you’re not just faking it, you’ll be issued a sick note within minutes.

Sicky co-founder Avinash Vazirani told news.com.au that the app will free up waiting rooms and ease the pressure on doctors.

He said “(It will) single-handedly assist in preventing the spread of viruses and other illnesses” by removing the need to visit a GP or pharmacist while ill."

The sick note will cost you $19.95, which is a whole lot cheaper than having to pay for an appointment with a doctor in person.

And shocker! The app has recorded a 42 per cent increase in post-long-weekend sickies.

“Quite often it’s because our patients have overindulged or have mixed with infectious people while socialising,” Mr Vazirani said.

The app is available on the App Store and Google Play.
