"I Will Keep Fighting": Demi Lovato Releases First Statement Following Overdose

"I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction."

Demi Lovato has told fans she will "keep fighting" in her first statement since last month’s life-threatening drug overdose.

On Instagram, Lovato posted a note thanking God, her family and the medical team responsible for keeping her "alive and well".

"To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond," she added.

Lovato opened the message by conceding her "journey with addition" is "not done yet".

"What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time," she wrote.

"I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side."

Lovato, who has spoken candidly about her struggles with sobriety, was hospitalised in late July due to an apparent overdose. One month earlier, she had released a new single, titled "Sober", in which she apologised to fans for her relapse.
