“Hunger Games” Has Literally Saved a Girl's Life After Teaching Her Friend First Aid

Obviously, The Hunger Games was life-changing for many, but for one girl in the U.S., it literally saved her life.

Three friends, Megan, Mackenzie and Zoe, were playing in a swamp in Massachusetts when Mackenzie cut her leg on some steel.

Megan ran to her side and, using the knowledge she gained from reading The Hunger Games, she applied a tourniquet to the wound and sent Zoe to get help.

Megan told The Gloucester Times that she figured a tourniquet was a well-known method after remembering the scene at the end of the first book where Katniss saves Peeta from bleeding out.

Mackenzie was later taken to the hospital and her father commended Megan on her quick thinking.

“Mackenzie would have lost a lot more blood, and it could have been life-threatening if [Megan] hadn’t done what she did,” Mackenzie’s father told The Gloucester Times.
