Ask questions, learn about your potential degree, and get a feel for uni life 🧑‍🎓
This article is presented in partnership with Australian National University.
If you’re coming to the end of high school (congratulations), you’re probably already thinking about what’s next.
If you’re considering studying, open days are a great opportunity to get a feel for your potential uni/TAFE, try new things, speak with staff and current students, and find out more about your potential degree.
One open day you don’t want to miss out on is the ANU Open Day on Saturday, 16 March.
So here’s how to get excited and prepare for ANU Open Day.
Book a place to stay.

If you already live in Canberra, lucky you. You can get to the ANU campus by car, bike, tram, bus, or scooter.
If you’re coming from out of state, you could stay and make a weekend out of it. Why not stay somewhere close to ANU so you can get to campus easily?
Two hotels are providing a cheeky discount for Open Day visitors. DOMA Hotels is providing 20% with the code ANUEVENT and Canberra Accommodation Centre is offering a 10% off discount if you mention you’re attending the ANU Open Day when you book via phone (1800 317 537).
If you’re planning on taking public transport into the ANU campus there are plenty of buses that go past the campus. It’s also worth checking out Transperth Canberra’s journey planner and buying a MyWay fare card.
Check out open day events in advance.

Open days can be overwhelming at times. So, it’s always worthwhile checking out uni websites and seeing what events suit you best.
ANU have a comprehensive calendar full of their open day events so you can easily find exactly what you’re looking for so you won’t miss a single thing. You can even filter the events based on what disciplines you might be interested in. There are also events tailored to learning about student life.
So put together your personalised program!
Be prepared to ask questions.

The best way to learn more about a uni, is to ask questions at their open day.
At ANU Open Day, you’ll get access to academics, other staff members and even current students, so you can ask them all your burning questions.
You can ask staff about what certain courses look like to help narrow down what you want to study. Or ask students what a day studying at ANU looks like.
Hot tip: think of what you might want to ask in advance and note them down before you get there.
Bring your mates (or your parents) with you.

Everything’s better with your friends. Especially a fun, vibrant open day event.
While open days are fun and exciting, they can also be a lot. Sometimes bringing your friends with you helps you to feel a little more at ease. And it’s also a chance to see if ANU is a good fit, for you and your mates.
Now we get it, you might not want to bring your parents with you. But the ANU Open Day is actually a major event to bring your parents along so they can see the support you’ll be getting at uni and the type of coursework you’ll be doing. It’s also a chance for them to have their questions answered, so they don’t bombard you with them later!
Bring supplies you might need.

Think about what you might need to bring on the day.
Check the weather and dress comfortably because you’ll be spending most of the day outside. And if you’re someone who might get a bit hangry from time to time (DW, we all do), bring some snacks with you.
And, bring a bag because throughout the ANU Open Day you’re likely to pick up some pamphlets and other cool things too 👀

Now you know what to expect from ANU Open Day. So, what are you waiting for?
Register on the Open Day website and find events to fill your calendar this open day.
