How to Make Your Own Super Mario Worlds in "Super Mario Maker 2"

It’s-a-me, an explanation.

When Robert Oppenheimer saw the first detonation of his nuclear weapon in 1945, he reportedly thought of a piece of Hindu scripture: "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."

Well… now you can feel the exact opposite of Oppenheimer thanks to a new addition to Super Mario Maker 2.

From Wednesday 22 April, you can download a free update that’ll allow you to create entire worlds on the addictive Nintendo Switch game.

The whole gist of Super Mario Maker 2 is that you can create and play individual levels, and that’s very good for those who like jumping into countless pipes.

But now, you can link those levels by forging a brand new world, able to contain up to five of your levels. Beyond that, the new update will let you connect eight worlds into an overall game, complete with overworld map and mini-games.

You can now paint your own path to the castle—even via warp pipes—and travel to it via desert, snow, sky, forest, volcano, outer-space or underground environments.

Jump to the three-minute mark in the video below to see it in action.

You can create up to eight worlds with 40 courses thanks to the new update. To access it—and share your worlds via Course World, provided you’ve got a paid online membership—you’ll just need an internet connection. You should be prompted to install the update next time you play from 22 April.

Get building, builder of worlds!
