How to Get Fun Rewards and Collectables From Nintendo in Australia

Need an excuse to play more Switch?

Earlier this week, Nintendo Australia scrapped the old My Nintendo rewards program by ditching everything but one Wii U and 3DS discount code.

As it turns out, they haven’t left the website barren for no reason. Instead they’re replacing the rewards site with a new service called My Nintendo Store, to give players physical rewards and items to buy.

Vooks first noticed the change on the Nintendo store earlier in the week, along with the introduction of the new rewards program.

Since Club Nintendo shut down in 2016, this is the first time Aussie gamers have had a physical rewards store from Nintendo.

The way it works is pretty simple. You redeem ‘platinum points’ by interacting with certain services and games, and use the points to purchase goods.

Building up points is also super easy. You can get them by using apps on your smart device to purchase eligible games, signing into the Nintendo eShop and interacting with other Nintendo services.

You also earn Nintendo gold points by interacting with some services but it looks like all the physical rewards can only be redeemed with platinum points or card payments.

For example, right now you can get a Nintendo Switch Game Card Case for 500 points or a Yoshi Canvas Pouch for 300 points. You can also purchase items with card payments if you prefer (or are out of points).

You do unfortunately have to fork out $7 in shipping to get any of these items, so they aren’t 100 per cent free but at least they're a lot cheaper than what they would be in store.

Not everything is Switch console related. Some items are simply Nintendo themed or are special merchandise from some of your favourite Nintendo games, like Zelda and Mario.

The products range from drink bottles, storage pouches, party items and other knick-knacks, so that's a, uh, kind of nice way to be rewarded.

It isn’t clear how often products from My Nintendo Store will be added and removed but it is likely that highly sought-after items will go quickly (I’ve got my eye on that game card case).

You can check out everything available on the physical store right here (don’t spend all your points at once).
