Here's How Australian Politicians Reacted To Trump Taking The Presidency

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has congratulated Donald Trump on his election win, while Pauline Hanson said she sees herself reflected in Trump.

Turnbull spoke positively about relationships remaining "strong and intimate" between Australia and the United States.

Speaking to the ABC, Turnbull stressed how important it is for the United States to stand by its commitments to the global community. "The Trump administration, just like the Obama administration, will act in defence of America's enduring national interests," he said.

Turnbull expressed how regardless of who holds the presidency, "the alliance between Australia and the United states is set in the enduring national interests of both countries."

Journalist and 7:30 host Leigh Sales asked him whether he was bothered by Trump's perceived instability.

"President-elect Trump himself described it as being at times a nasty campaign, and it was certainly by our standards, a very bitter one," he answered.

"You have seen already the way he reached out to bring Americans together."

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has also publicly expressed his two cents on the Trump presidency.

Originally posted on Facebook, Shorten later tweeted the following status.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has welcomed Trump's victory, saying she could see herself reflected in his leadership.

"We've had Brexit, and that's happened, and now America — good on you guys. You got it right. I'm so happy that Donald Trump is there," she applauded.
