Holy Guacamole! GYG is Giving Away Free Guac For a Year

It's a National Guacamole Day miracle!

Guzman Y Gomez (GYG) is single handedly trying to save 2020 by giving one lucky winner free guac for a year just because its National Guacamole Day.

Yes, apparently National Guacamole Day is a thing (at least in the US), but Guzman has brought it to Oz so that we too can dance about our favorite green dip.

Yeah okay don’t @ me I couldn’t write this article without including this gif, that would be criminal.

So, before you rush to Guzman to inhale that guac, here are some delicious avocado facts:

According to Avocados Australia, in 2018/19, Australians consumed 3.81kg of the fruit per person. If my calculations are correct, that’s MORE THAN 95.2 million kilos of avocado consumed in a year (*glances at Melbourne*).

Most avos consumed in Australia are grown in North Queensland at more than 23,200 tonnes, with Western Australia following closely behind at 22,900 tonnes. Yet another thing QLD has to take from WA (no I’m not still mad about the AFL grand finale, I don’t know what you mean).

The gross value of production (GVP) for Aussie avos is estimated at $557 million, so we definitely love this fruit.

We all know that avocados are the king of healthy fats, but they’re actually way healthier than you might think. According to Australian Avocados, the berry is the only fruit apart from olives to contain monounsaturated fats which help you to absorb fat-soluble nutrients, reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, promote healthy skin and help keep your heart healthy.

Avocados are also packed full of fiber, folate, potassium, antioxidants, niacin and vitamins C,B5,E and K.

An even funner fact is that scientists in Australia have just discovered how to cryogenically preserve avocados so our future generations can be blessed by guac and avo toast.

Okay, now onto the comp.

Guzman Y Gomez has announced their bottomless guacamole competition on Facebook and Instagram. So, all you have to do is like their Facebook and Instagram pages and answer in 20 words or less how much you love GYG guac.

I don’t know about you, but 20 words is not enough for me to explain how much I need Guzman’s guac.

The Mexican restaurant chain has stated that the most creative entry will be selected, so now’s the time to think outside the box.
