Here’s What Ryan Reynolds Sounds Like as Actual Pikachu in "Detective Pikachu"

But... why?

In case you don’t have a Google Alert set for "Ryan Reynolds" + "Pikachu" + "Weird Ideas" and weren’t aware, Ryan Reynolds is voicing Pikachu (and providing a "motion capture" performance) in a live-action Pokémon movie, which is definitely a weird idea.

With Detective Pikachu hitting cinemas in May of 2019, we’ve been eagerly awaiting a trailer, to a) prove this thing actually exists and b) hear what Reynolds sounds like as Pikachu.

And now that we have it: yes, it’s basically Ryan Reynolds doing his regular Ryan Reynolds voice.

Check it out.

Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton also star in the flick, which depicts Reynolds’ Pikachu as a grizzled gumshoe trying to solve a crime by interrogating other Pokémon. However, only Smith’s character can hear Pikachu with Reynolds’ speaking voice. All other humans in the cast (which includes… Rita Ora?) hear the traditional, squeaky Pikachu voice, provided by long-time Pikachu actress, Ikue Ōtani.

There’s nothing really left to say but: Pika Pika?
