Here Are the Best Theories to Explain Halsey's "Graveyard" Music Video

It might as well be an outtake from Euphoria.
Halsey has a lot on her plate at the moment. Her third studio album Manic is set for release in early 2020, she’s gearing up to headline Falls Festival over the new year, and now she’s been confirmed to perform at the 2019 ARIA Awards.
It’s all pretty exciting, but fans are more interested in dissecting the music video for her latest single, "Graveyard". Halsey explained in an interview with 1075 The River that the tune explores elements of a toxic relationship, saying, "It’s about loving yourself enough to know when to stop, and when to say, 'I can’t follow you anymore.'"
The music video, which dropped last week, also features actress Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), and follows the pair as they frolic through a carnival. Honestly, it looks like it could easily be a deleted scene from Euphoria, or even Alice in Wonderland.
When watching it for the first time, it can be tricky to understand exactly what the music video is about. Plus, it’s Halsey we’re talking about here, which means it's never going to be completely straightforward.
So, let's break it down.
Halsey draws up a girl.
The video opens with Halsey up late alone in her room, drawing a picture of a girl, who consequently comes to life as Sydney. This part is relatively simple. But, at this point we don’t really know who the girl is, or what she represents.

However, some fans believe Sydney might symbolise Halsey (real name Ashley) creating her stage persona.

Halsey and Sydney dance through the carnival.
This part takes up majority of the music video and sees Halsey and Sydney frolicking through a seemingly abandoned carnival, trying out the rides, games, and busting out the occasional choreographed dance. They’re both excited and content.

If "Graveyard" is about toxic relationships, it seems reasonable that this part of the video could represent Halsey falling in love with somebody who is no good for her. After all, she sings in the chorus, "They say I may be making a mistake, I would’ve followed all the way, no matter how far."
Halsey enters a sea aquarium, but Sydney disappears.
In the next part of the video, Halsey enters a sea aquarium, but Sydney disappears, as if she’s not able to go in with her.

Considering the aquarium is also featured in the music video for "Clementine", some fans think Sydney’s disappearance symbolises Halsey letting go of her toxic relationship.
Halsey wakes up and everything is grey.
The tail end of the music video shows Halsey waking up by herself. She takes another walk through the abandoned carnival, but this time everything is bland and neutral.

One fan suggested that this could represent Halsey coming to terms with the fact that her relationship wasn’t as perfect as it initially seemed.
although it could be debated that when h enters the aquarium and emerges from the water to a pale shell of the fairground that it’s because she’s grown to understand that what she experienced there wasnt love, only some kind of euphoric romance :)

No matter what the music video really means, it is truly the Euphoria x Halsey crossover we never knew we needed. It's pure art.
