2022 was hectic all 'round, with wild weather, sporting triumphs, the never-ending COVID pandemic and the Ukraine conflict. So, buckle up.

It seems Aussies were obsessed with tennis this summer, with “Australian Open”, “Novak Djokovic” and “Ash Barty” all making the top ten, and four of the top five most-searched Australians of 2022 were tennis stars.

In terms of news events this year, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was the dominant story, with the 2022 Federal Election, COVID-19 Omicron and Monkeypox following just behind.

The world saw its fair share of saddening celebrity deaths this year – in terms of loss, Australians searched the most for cricket legend Shane Warne, with Olivia Newton John, Betty White and Queen Elizabeth following him.

Google’s also put together the top ten recipes Aussies were after this year – taking the crown was Dahl, then Ezy Sauce and Drunken Chicken.

Unsurprisingly, COVID continued to dominate search results, with Australians seeking answers on transmission, symptoms, vaccinations and isolation protocols.

With the impact of La Nina, Australians, especially those on the east coast, were obsessed with weather this year, especially wanting to know when the inclement weather would end.
