Great News, Everyone: Giant Pandas Are No Longer Classified As Endangered

Panda. Panda. Panda panda panda panda panda.

As if it hadn't already been a great year for pandas, thanks to Desiigner's earwormy radio hit, it's been revealed that giant pandas are no longer endangered.

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the once-endangered animal has been downgraded to ‘vulnerable’ on the global list of species at risk of extinction.

Fittingly, the giant panda is the official symbol of the WWF, and, as a result, conservation in general.

“The recovery of the panda shows that when science, political will and engagement of local communities come together, we can save wildlife and also improve biodiversity,” said WWF Director General Marco Lambertini in a statement.

However, the WWF cautions that other species in the world remain under threat of total eradication, including the eastern gorilla, newly updated to ‘critically endangered’. (Before you ask, Harambe was a western lowland silverback, though these are already considered ‘critically endangered'.)

Still, even though they're not entirely safe, it’s worth celebrating the improved status of giant pandas.

Risky

Nice work, everyone.
