Get Ready 'Cos TikTok Is Looking to Add In-App Shopping

Love this for me... not so much my bank account.

It’s official: TikTok is now moving into the world of online shopping and what little money I have left in my bank account is very much in danger.

According to an article by Bloomberg, TikTok have been low-key looking at ways it can sell products like clothing, make-up and tech to millions of young people using the app.

Partnering with UK streetwear brand Hype, TikTok have begun testing a shopping feature, but it's only visible to select participants.

Unfortunately, I’m not one of them—probably ‘cos I live in Austalia—but looking at Hype’s account there is now a shopping tab that is blank.

I should really become an investigator.

Up until now, businesses and influencers on TikTok have been promoting products in their video content with links directing buyers straight to an online store outside of TikTok.

Both Instagram and Facebook have in-app shopping features, so it only makes sense that TikTok is now looking to get their piece of the online shopping pie. And given they’re a household name, why wouldn’t they?

I’m sure the fact that the $US5 trillion on offer in the world of online shopping only sweetens the deal.

It’s not the first time this year that TikTok have toyed with online shopping features, with Business Insider reporting that they were looking into how to create a live-streamed shopping feed.

Remember the shopping channel on TV? Well, we’ve officially come full circle as those infomercials look to enter our social feeds.

I can’t wait to see the PedEgg, the Snuggie and the Magic Bullet all feature on TikTok vids.
