‘Footloose’ is Coming to Perth (With a 2000's Twist)

Cut loose and don't miss WAAPA's biggest production of the year!
This article is presented in partnership with WAAPA.
Can you imagine a world where dancing and music are banned?
Nope, neither can I.

The hit-musical Footloose imagines exactly that in a small town in America.
City boy Ren’s world gets turned upside down when he moves to rural backwater Bormont – where rock music and dancing are an absolute no-go - until he takes matters into his own hands and lets all hell break loose.
Honestly, fair reaction.

The musical boasts a Tony-nominated score of hits like Shrek 2’s Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Holding Out for a Hero’, Deneice Williams’ ‘Let’s Hear It for the Boy’, and of course, the one and only – ‘Footloose’.
The original 1984 film led by Kevin Bacon was a box-office hit, and the film got the remake treatment with Miles Teller in 2011.
You might even remember the dance-off to 'Footloose' in The Umbrella Academy.

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts are bringing Footloose to life at His Majesty’s Theatre in June – it’s their biggest production of the year!
With a WAAP(A)-ing cast of 40 triple-threat performers with a live rock band, this high-energy, electric musical will absolutely dominate the stage with the stunning designs by the academy’s talented crew of Production and Design students.

Guest-directing the show is award-winning theatre director and actor Jason Langley, who says that this production will ‘catapult Footloose into the 2000s with stunning designs and a cheeky nod to the two films.’
“I’m beyond excited to be working with a spectacularly talented cast on a show where a young person rises up against an unfathomable system of law and leads a teenage revolution,” he says.

This massive ensemble performing these iconic tracks and high-octane dance numbers are directed by musical director Craig Dalton and choreographer Jodie Bickle.
The show has a limited run so make sure you don’t miss out!
Footloose will run at His Majesty’s Theatre between 9-15 June, and you can get your tix here.
