Five Tips to Remember Before Taking Your Driving Test

Get in loser, we’re going to get our licence🚗💅🏼

There’s no better feeling than passing your driving test and going to a drive-through for a celebratory meal and subtle humblebrag.

After hitting the minimum age, passing a Driver Knowledge Test and completing all your driving hours, there’s a good chance you’re probably dying to complete your test and flex those P’s on your dashboard.

If you’re getting ready to take your driving test, here’s some tips to keep in mind before the big day!

Book your practical driving test in early.

This is it. You’ve completed all your hours, passed your hazard perception test and you could have a licence by next week. Right? Wrong.

Unfortunately, you could be waiting weeks, if not months to get an appointment at a licensing centre. So, if you think you might be ready to take your practical test soon, it’s best to book a driving test in earlier to avoid disappointment.

Practice on a variety of different roads.

This may seem obvious but if you are planning on taking your test, you’ll want to make sure you practice driving on different types of roads. This includes quieter streets, major roads, highways and even suburban areas.

If you know what area you’ll be taking your test in, you could even drag a parent or guardian over there to practice so you’ll be more familiar with the suburb during your test.

Make sure the car you are using is fully functional.

If you’re using a 1993 Toyota Corolla which is prone to breaking down, maybe leave her at home. Because if your car does not meet your tester’s standards, they will not allow you to take your test in this vehicle.

This includes if your hazard, brake and indicator lights aren’t working. The tester will check your vehicle before you begin the test. If you need a car to use, you could ask your driving instructor if you can borrow theirs or ask a mate or a family member too.

Be punctual on the day.

If there’s ever a time not to be late it’s on the day of your driving test. Most licensing centres will advise you to arrive 10-15 minutes before your actual test time. A good idea is to allow yourself time to run late should anything happen.

In some cases, if you are late, you might not be able to take your test.

Don’t be salty if you don’t pass on the first go.

If you don’t pass your practical driving test the first time, it is ok. The test is designed to be a little challenging and chances are most of your mates will have taken their driving test more than once too. Some of us at Student Edge haven’t passed yet either! (No shade team😏)

The important thing is to not give up, correct your mistakes and get back on the horse/in the car when you’re ready!

And once you’ve passed your test, that drive-through meal will taste even better! Good luck!
