Five Reasons Why Flashcards Are the Best Way to Learn

They’re very flash ✨
This article is presented in partnership with Oxford.
Using flashcards is one of the most popular ways to study—and there are good reasons why they should be in your own arsenal.

While they shouldn’t be your sole method of studying, they’re an amazing complementary tool for your kit. Oxford FLASH 2.0 flashcards make them even more versatile, by transforming written cards into digital ones.
Here are five reasons why flashcards are super effective study tools, and why you should get around them.
1. They allow for “confidence-based repetition”.
When studying, it can be tempting to go over knowledge that you already know well. It makes you feel more confident when you flip over the flashcard and ace the answer!

But you can’t neglect the knowledge you don’t know, that’s why flashcards are particularly useful.
When you get answers wrong, you can create a special pile for them and practice them more. You can create piles of varying difficulty and revise them repetitively until you smash ‘em.
2. They’re ultra-portable.
Forget your laptop, piles of study notes and textbooks. Flashcards are made to be on-the-go.

The Oxford FLASH 2.0 flashcards are physical cards that are compatible with the SCRIBZEE app. The technology allows you to scan your handwritten cards and store them all on your phone—making them even more portable!
You won’t have to worry about ripped, dog-eared cards anymore.
Sharing is also caring –using the SCRIBZEE app, send flashcards to your friends to help them study *bestie goals*
3. Creating them is part of the studying process.
When you’ve lost motivation to memorise stuff, writing it out is the perfect alternative.
If you concentrate (even just a little!) while writing out your flashcards, you’ll be absorbing the information you’re putting down.
You can also retain the info when you scan them one by one onto the SCRIBZEE app.
4. They’re versatile.
There aren’t many subjects you can’t write a pack of flashcards for.
Literature? Memorise quotes for your essays.
History? Memorise significant dates in history.
Maths? Learn a couple formulas off by heart.

You can even use pictures instead of words, or rhymes to help remember certain quotes.
5. They can be gamified.
Flashcards don’t have to be boring.
The QUIZ tool on the SCRIBZEE app allows you to gamify your study.

Once you’ve learned your flashcards by heart with the REVISION mode, you can practice in QUIZ mode. Each card will be displayed one by one, and you can reveal the answer by tapping in the centre of the card.
Swipe right if you answered correctly or left if you got it wrong. The ones you answered incorrectly will be labelled to ‘review’ again.
You’ll get a score at the end of the quiz and have the opportunity to review incorrect answers.
Flashcards are far more fun than sitting with your head in the books. Get practising with friends, family, or with yourself—and ace your studies!
