It's your path to an epic post-school adventure🎓

This article is presented in partnership with North Metropolitan TAFE.

Finished high school and trying to plan what your first year of freedom will look like? We gotchu.

It can be a little tricky navigating adult life post-high school. And thankfully, there are so many paths for high school grads to choose. A great way of beginning your career after graduation is investing your time in a TAFE course.

If you’re not sure what to study, don’t worry. There are plenty of TAFE courses you can study that you might not have even heard about yet. And better yet, these courses are even fee-free (resource fees and some eligibility conditions may apply). Check out what TAFE has to offer below.

Certificate III in Patisserie (SIT31021).

Do you want to learn how to master the perfect choux pastry? Or maybe you love a crème brulee? A Certificate III in Patisserie (SIT31021) will make you a master chef in no time. You’ll learn how to master the arts of petits fours, chocolates and mouth-watering cakes, all in a commercial, training kitchen. You’ll also learn about cleaning, sanitisation and food safety programs so you can nail a career as a pâtissier or pastry chef.

Certificate IV in Information Technology specialising in Games and Intelligent Systems (ICT40120).

If you’ve always wanted to know the ins and outs of your fave video game then this course is for you. You can dive into high-tech game development and intelligent systems with a Certificate IV in Information Technology specialising in Games and Intelligent Systems (ICT40120). You’ll don VR headsets, leverage Unity and Unreal game engines and tinker with up-and-coming robotics technology.

Certificate III in Tourism (SIT30122).

Grab your passport and get a Certificate III in Tourism (SIT30122). Imagine exploring the hottest, international travel destinations, or helping visitors discover top holiday spots in their own backyard. North Metropolitan TAFE is the leading provider of travel and tourism studies in WA, and is all about arming students with the skills to crush it in visitor information services, tour guiding and tourism operations.

Surveying.

If you’ve spent most of the high school wishing you could move your math class outside, Surveying is the course for you. A mix of both outdoor and indoor work, a course in Surveying is perfect for a maths whiz, anyone who enjoys crunching GIS data and getting hands-on with problem solving. Plus, you'll get the chance to whip data into computer-generated drawings and plans.

Certificate IV in Cyber Security (22603VIC).

Cyber attacks are on the rise in Aus so with a Certificate IV in Cyber Security (22603VIC) you’ll learn how to defend against those attacks using modern tech. You’ll be the inside source on defending against sneaky security breaches, handling cyber threats like a pro and setting up the right software defences to keep it locked down.

Haven’t seen a course you like? No stress: North Metropolitan TAFE have over 50 courses that are fee-free in 2024 and over 300 courses to choose from altogether.

And it isn’t too late to submit an application. Late applications will remain open until Friday 15 December 2023. And courses with vacancies will accept wait-list applications until Friday 9 February 2024.
