Everything You Need to Know Before The Mandalorian Season 3

Everything You Need to Know Before The Mandalorian Season 3

Get the low-down on the latest with Din Djarin and Grogu (a.k.a. Baby Yoda)

Can you believe the finale of Season 2 of The Mandalorian come out at the end of 2020?!

If you’re not an avid Star Wars fan and have been watching purely for ‘Baby Yoda’ and ‘Baby Yoda’ alone – we get it.

Also, if you’ve been watching for Pedro Pascal too, that is also understandable. We’ll be seeing him on our screens twice a week for a bit while he’s also in The Last of Us.

The Season 2 finale left us in tears (IYKYK), but you might not have realised that more has actually happened with Grogu (yes, that’s his name) and the Mandalorian, Din Djarin.

If you’re wanting to avoid spoilers *waves hand* this is not the article you’re looking for!

If you haven’t watched The Mandalorian yet, make sure you’re signed up to Disney+!

The iconic duo made an appearance in the The Book of Boba Fett series, set directly after the events of Season 2, and they got a decent amount of screen-time.

A good lot has happened since then, so if you haven’t had the chance to rewatch The Mandalorian Season 2 or even watch The Book of Boba Fett (I wouldn’t blame you) – here’s a quick recap to get you up to speed before the new season.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Finale.

When I tell you that this finale is one of the best episodes in live-action Star Wars TV – I 👏 am 👏 right 👏.

Mando tracks down the Moff Gideon – a.k.a. the guy with the Darksaber who dared to kidnap Grogu – and brings a kick-ass team including Boba Fett, and Bo-Katan.

The Darksaber is incredibly important to Bo-Katan because wielding it gives you the right to lay claim to the Mandalorian throne.

Mando doesn’t care though – he just wants his lil best, force-wielding boy back.

An evitable fight between Mando and Gideon ensues, where Mando grants him mercy and takes back Grogu.

However, Bo-Katan is in a bit of a pickle – it turns out the only way to claim it is to defeat the owner in combat. Yikes.

Cue some sick electronic beats as Dark Troopers prepare to fight… but an X-Wing appears and boards the ship.

It’s none other than Luke Skywalker himself.

He makes his way towards the team in arguably one of the best combat scenes in Star Wars history.

Luke says that he needs to take Grogu to train him in the force, and when Mando says a heart-felt goodbye he makes the biggest Mandalorian sin – taking off his helmet.

It’s truly a tear-jerking moment, I’m literally crying as I rewatch this moment again.

And that’s where The Mandalorian Season 2 finishes – with millions of hearts crushed as Grogu leaves with one of the most iconic Jedi in the galaxy.

Din Djarin and Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett.

I can’t help but feel a little bad when I say that Mando and Grogu coming into the series was the best thing that could’ve happened to it. Soz.

There’s a few episodes they featured in, but I’m gonna sum it up with the most important parts that will be important for the new season.

Mando meets survivors of the tribe of Mandalorian warriors, and the Armourer creates a little chain mail tunic out of Mando’s beskar spear.

Mando fesses up that despite wielding the Darksaber, he was broken their code by removing his helmet, and he becomes rejected by them. Oof.

Meanwhile, Grogu is being trained by Luke on how to use the force. Mando discreetly delivers his gift to Grogu to Ashoka Tano to give to him.

Later on, Luke gives Grogu the choice to take the chain mail and stop his training, or continue on the path of a Jedi.

Of course, Grogu chooses his space dad and takes the chain mail.

The pair reunite in a wholesome way mid-battle in Mos Espa, and a rancor rampage ends with Grogu using the force to send it to sleep.

The last we see of Grogu and Mando flying away together with a cute exchange.

So what’s next for The Mandalorian?

The new trailer shows Mando stating he is heading to Mandalore ‘to be forgiven for his transgressions’.

Complete with heaps of battle sequences (including a potential flashback in a Jedi temple?), my favourite moment is seeing Grogu force-throw a creature with the biggest look of concentration on his face.

I feel like a proud mum.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian starts tomorrow, 1 March on Disney+.
