End of an Era: “The Simpsons” to Leave Network Ten and Head to Channel Seven

Excellent?

Prepare to change the exact same nightly Simpsons-watching routine that has dominated your entire life.

After decades on the air at Network Ten, The Simpsons will soon make a new home for itself on Channel Seven.

According to the SMH, Seven snapped up the free-to-air rights for The Simpsons and MASH among other American shows, directly from Fox.

Back in the day, Ten paid Fox $90 million for the pleasure to air The Simpsons, Modern Family, Futurama, Bob’s Burgers and other Fox programs on Ten, One and Eleven.

Ten reportedly tried to cut those costs in half, but Fox terminated their contract in October.

Seven has since made a deal with Fox believed to be much smaller in size. However, the network isn’t going to just air all those Fox shows willy-nilly; they’re cherry-picking proven performers.

And The Simpsons, which has been running for close to 30 years (and since 1991 on Australian tele) is surely that.

Of course, who knows how long this deal will last, given Fox's recent purchase by Disney (who are expected to start up their own streaming service to rival Netflix in the coming years)?

There may come a day where The Simpsons isn't on free-to-air at all. But, until then...
