This Eight-Year-Old Dude Was Just Crowned the USA Mullet Champion

He’s won $2,500 for it, plus an enviable pair of pit vipers 😎

In today’s absurd but soul-healing news, an eight-year-old boy from Menomonie, Wisconsin has taken home $2,500 USD for his impressive long locks.

The USA Mullet Championships announced winners across the child, teen and adult divisions on Sunday, and there are some real masterpieces in the line-up.

Emmitt Bailey beat out 688 other young entrants in the kid’s division, and we’ve gotta say, with the pit vipers and gnarly stare, this guy would fit in well among the mullet-adorning bogans of Aus.

“It’s awesome,” Emmitt told Buzzfeed News, “it’s so cool that so many people tell you that you got sweet hair.”

Emmitt intends to spend the hefty cash prize on a go-kart.

Voting came down to a combo of official judges and the public, who whittled down all entrants to just 25 finalists. Here are some of our top picks.

Emmitt told Buzzfeed News that he’s been growing his mullet for two years, and even gave it the iconic nickname ‘Mufasa’ (much to his mother’s distaste).

“He was pretty adamant about wanting the mullet since the beginning,” she said, “I wasn’t on board right away, but it’s just become part of his personality now.”

With a total of 9,896 votes, Emmitt has been launched into the spotlight across media outlets across the world.
