Despite Being Canned in the US, the "Heathers" Reboot Is Coming to Australia

What's your damage, Heathers?

While the Heathers reboot may have been denied its scheduled United States premiere earlier this year, it looks like its fate in Australia won't quite be the same.

Stan has announced they will be exclusively screening the controversial show to Australian viewers with all the season's episodes dropping on 28 September.

The series will be set in the present day and, like the original film, follows high school student Veronica Sawyer who takes on her ferocious group of frenemies, all with the first-name Heather.

It was due to premiere in March this year but was delayed in the United States due to the tragic school shooting in Florida at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 school students were gunned down by a fellow student.

A few months after its premiere was confirmed to be indefinitely delayed, the President of Development at Paramount Network, Keith Cox, told The Hollywood Reporter that they decided not to screen the series on any Viacom-owned networks.

"This is a high school show, we're blowing up the school, there are guns in the school, it's a satire and there are moments of teachers having guns. It's hitting on so many hot topics," Cox said.

"This company can't be speaking out of both sides of its mouth, saying the youth movement is important for us and we've done all these wonderful things to support that and at the same time, we're putting on a show that we're not comfortable with."

In Australia, it was due to show on SBS but Student Edge confirmed with a representative that they no longer had plans to broadcast the show on their network.
