A Sad Chapter of Internet History Dawns as 'Club Penguin' Announces Its Website Will Be Closed

“Hello penguins, the Club Penguin virtual world will be closing March 29, 2017,” reads the website banner.

Well, it’s the end of an internet era. Many early fans of Club Penguin are waving good-bye to a dearly loved part of their childhood.

For those who have no idea what on Earth Club Penguin is, it’s a massively popular multiplayer online role-playing game. Except, here’s the kicker: All the characters are penguins. Think Neopets meets Habbo Hotel, but penguin-style.

Good, wholesome fun.

Anyway, creators of the game have decided to pull the plug on the Club Penguin website; instead, they will be launching a new mobile-online game. Even though—technically—they aren’t getting rid of the game entirely, that hasn’t softened the blow for many fans.
