Casual Work: Getting Your Parents' Consent

If you’re a young person looking for work (especially if it’s your first time doing so) you should make sure that you have your parents’ or guardians’ permission to work.
In some States there are laws that restrict the age when a young person can commence working, what times their hours can be worked and how many hours per week can be worked too. Your school Careers Adviser will be able to help you determine any specific restrictions that apply in your State of Territory.
In addition to parental consent, you may wish to include their parents or guardians in the orientation process that occurs when you start work. This can be a helpful way of making sure that they understand the organisation’s policies and procedures and for the organisation to understand their expectations about appropriate scheduling arrangements for work.
