Danny and Michael Phillippou AKA RackaRacka Talk to Us About Their New Film “Bring Her Back”

They’re back with another blood curdling horror film 🫣
From brotherly pranks, comedic violence and meticulously choreographed fight videos – it’s an incredible journey to watch from Danny and Michael Phillapou’s humble beginnings on YouTube to an insanely well received breakout horror film.
Talk to Me, (2023) saw a group of Adelaide teenagers experimenting with the supernatural through a hand that could connect them to the dead.
We got a chance to speak with them all about their spine-chilling new film Bringer Her Back that delves into the horrors of cult rituals and bringing back the dead. Popcorn anyone?
Bring Her Back follows brother and sister Andy (Billy Barratt) and Piper (Sora Wong) witness a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother, Laura (Sally Hawkins).
This film will have you on the edge of your seat with your hands over your eyes.
We can assure you it’s not for the faint hearted.
In fact, Danny told us how before shooting the film, they had a shaman bless the set in case any evil spirits were awakened when dabbling in the occult.
“So, there was this shaman, and it was blessing each crew member. And then our producer, Sam Jennings, it took a week apparently for her,” Danny said.
“She has some dark stuff going on there. She's just sorting out,” Michael added.
“Yeah. Well, like, everyone else took an hour, Sam. Why did you take a week?”
They also told us about the task of wrangling the sound design for such a massive project and being obsessed over the small details.
“There was 750 layers of sound in this movie,” Michael told Student Edge.
“And you can take all of them, and you're putting them in a cinema, so mixing was always this, like, mammoth task trying to wrangle the film and bring things out, bring them down and ironing them out.
“It's always a fun process, but it's an intensive one.”
Plus, they both gave us some great advice for students who want to break into the film industry and home in on their creative craft. Whether that’s script writing, filming, directing or acting – their advice is to get out there and just start.
“If you're a scriptwriter and everything, it's like, that is the best currency that you could have is a finished script,” Danny said.
“You can start shopping that around. And even if you don't sell that first one, like, you can use that stuff in future films.”
