Brighton Grammar Expels Year 11 Students Behind Disturbing Instagram Account

A disturbing Instagram account run by students of an elite private boys’ school in Melbourne is under police investigation.

Update (20/07): Brighton Grammar has expelled the two students at the center of the Instagram account in question, Fairfax reports. You can read the original story as follows.

According to The Age, two Year 11 students at Brighton Grammar School set up the (now deleted) account ys_academy_puspus on Friday. On it, they posted images of female students as young as 11 “in various stages of dress”.

Visitors were encouraged to vote on “slut of the year”.

The mother of one of the girls featured on the account contacted police after writing a post to Facebook that shortly after went viral. (It is now marked private.)

"I am writing this as a mother of a girl that has not only been sexualised but violated within our small community,” she wrote.

"I will not rest until the consequence for the crime meets the severity of the crime itself - for my daughter and all other young unsuspecting girls."

She told Fairfax Media that she later received a “threatening” phone call from another parent on Sunday night, saying that the account was simply “a group of boys having fun”.

The police confirmed they received a report about “inappropriate content on an Instagram account originating in the bayside area” and that the "matter is being investigated by local detectives".

The school’s headmaster, Ross Featherston, has spoken to the boys responsible for the account, as well as their parents and the parents of two girls featured on the account.

In a statement to media, the school confirmed that the two boys involved had been suspended.
