A Barilla Pasta Box Purse Exists and I Know Fashun When I See It

Catch me lookin’ like a trendy chef.
We all remember how wild everyone went over Barilla’s fancy Spotify playlists last year, right?
Well, get ready for their latest venture: the Barilla pasta box purse (wot?).

Yep, that’s right, you can now hit the town lookin’ like you’ve just left your local Woolies and are about to cook up a storm and a half.
This beauty of an accessory was created by New York Designer Nik Bentel and was inspired to elevate the blue Barilla pasta box after Nik apparently ate his “100th bowl of penne pasta” during pandemic lockdowns. Same dude, same.
Instead of sticking to the classic, recyclable, cardboard box that we all know and love from Barilla, Nik has decided to transform the box into a leather masterpiece with a handle and long gold chain.
It also looks exactly as you’d expect—ever had Barilla penne before? Well, it looks just like a good ol’ box of that, including all the cooking instructions and recipe ideas (unfortunately, I don’t think it comes with any penne).

I’m not gonna lie, even though this bag is made to look like a literal box of pasta, it’s kind of cute as heck. Like, I would willingly be seen wearing this piece of art.
“The bag is an irreverent take on the past year of staying inside,” wrote a press release about the product.
“The goal of the bag is to inspire a bit of thought and reflection on being able to create something exciting from the mundane.”
Move over Birkin bag, there’s a new kid in town.
Just to be clear, it looks like the bag has been designed by Nik himself, and is not in collaboration with Barilla in any way, so fingers crossed they’re okay with it lol.
As you might expect, the bag promptly went viral on Twitter, with some *chefs kiss* style memes.
“Is that a REAL Barilla Box Bag?!?”
— Jason Rosenberg (@RabbiRosenberg) August 5, 2021
“No. It’s an impasta.”
While the bag might not be as pricey as a Birkin, it is still expenny at US$199, and there’s only 100 available to snatch up, so if you want one, you’re going to have to get in quick.
The designer item goes on sale on Wednesday, 11 August at 12am AEST, so you’ll have to stay up a little late over here in Oz.
So, for the rest of the week you can find me eating a delish bowl of pasta, listening to my Barilla tunes and waiting for my new slick bag.
