Aussie DJ Loses Appeal In Thailand; Faces Two Life Terms In Jail

An Aussie DJ facing back-to-back life jail terms in Thailand has lost an appeal to have his time reduced, The Guardian reports.

Jake Mastroianni, 26, was arrested in 2014 for holding 61 ecstasy pills in the Thai beach city of Pattaya.

Lance Whitmore, a former British soldier aged 28, was arrested alongside Mastroianni for carrying 200 pills.

Whitmore similarly failed his appeal, though he pleaded guilty last year and subsequently only received one 50-year sentence.

On the Sydney club circuit, Mastroianni went by the stage name Badmouth.

He will be eligible for transfer to an Australian prison in six years’ time. In the meantime, he will be held in Bangkok’s notorious Klong Prem jail.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is providing consular assistance to an Australian man imprisoned in Thailand. It is believed that the man is Mastroianni.
