At LeBron's School, Students Get Free Meals, Bikes and Uni Tuition (and Parents Can Study There Too)

The King has spoken.
LeBron James may be L.A. bound, but he just launched a revolutionary public school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
LeBron’s I Promise School was launched on Monday, and it differs from your standard school in a whole heap of ways.
Firstly, I Promise School will run from 9am to 5pm, with the final hour of the day (the "illumination period") set aside for extra mentoring, studying or activities. The school year will be non-traditional too, but there will be greater access to school facilities outside of school hours, as well as STEM-based camps during the summer break.
I Promise also seeks to serve low-income students and families with an on-site food bank, and job placement assistance for parents.
Mums and dads can also access GED courses (which helps them gain the equivalent of their high school diploma, if they don’t have such a qualification to their name).
Every student will also receive a bike, along with free breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks, and access to a fitness trainer. Each day, time will be allocated to "social-emotional" learning too, Time reports.
And, maybe most remarkably, successful graduates of the I Promise School will get their full college tuition to the University of Akron covered by James.
We knew James loved school, but not this much.
Speaking with ESPN, LeBron noted how he missed more than 80 days of school in the fourth grade, due to his social circumstances, but was supported by little league and basketball coaches in his youth.
"I think that's what kids ultimately want, they just want someone to feel like someone cares about them," he said.
"And that's what we're trying to do here."
The first cohort at I Promise School will be made up of 120 third graders and 120 fourth graders. The school will add grades each year until 2022, when it will have students starting in Year One and graduating in Year Eight. Good luck, kids.
