Are We Living In A Simulation?

Futurist Elon Musk reckons we’re living in a simulation, saying “there’s a billion to one chance we’re living in base reality”. We asked our members for their thoughts.

Earth is so extraordinary and unpredictable that the impossibility of our existence can be overwhelming and frankly, unbelievable.

Science and history have tried to prove that it is believable, but the vast gaps in our knowledge leave many wondering, is it too good to be true? Are we real? Or are we just an experimental simulation for giant scientists in the real world?

The arguments for both sides are stacking up, but I'm all for the ‘giant scientists’ theory, believing that our life is just a simulation.

Many might ask, “but how could that be possible?” Well, look at The Sims. Are they really that different to us? (Okay, there’s more to the argument than just that – but still!)

If we are just simulated inventions, that would also explain how we all feel vastly different things. I like to read, but others hate the idea. People like different music, movies, classes, sports, colours, foods, and just about everything else. No two people are exactly the same - even twins end up with different personalities. Surely one organ as small as the brain can't hold all those preferences and decisions. Perhaps someone else is in control?

It may sound crazy, but when you think about it, humans are just too good to be true. My existence was nearly impossible; the probability of you reading this was slim; the fact these words make sense is beyond belief; the fact that this might spark thought of your own is completely incomprehensible.

When it's said that some things are just "out of your control", I think we should begin taking that seriously. Because really, are we smarter than Sims?
