"Among Us" Developers Are Salty That "Fortnite" Copied Them

Something is sus.

Among Us developers have been left frustrated after Fornite’s new 'Impostors' mode looks suspiciously similar to Among Us’ gameplay.

Debuting this week, 'Impostors' mode is more than just similar to Among Us; it’s basically a like-for-like copy. The new mode allows 10 players to join a match, eight of which are Agents of the Imagined Order tasked with assignments to keep HQ running. The remaining two players are Impostors, required to sneak around, blend in with the Agents, and then murder them without other players noticing.

Agents win by completing all their tasks or voting out the Impostors, while Impostors win by killing all the Agents or fooling them to vote each other out.

Sound familiar? Of course it does, that’s the gameplay to Among Us with names changed.

Well, InnerSloth developers (they made Among Us) agree and aren’t happy about Fortnite’s new 'Impostors' mode, with a heap of them taking to Twitter to voice their frustration at what Fortnite did.

First up was Community Manager Victoria Tran, who was bummed that Fortnite and Epic Games didn’t at least reach out to them to consider working together.

“It would’ve been really, really cool to collab haha,” Tran tweeted.

“Like game mechanics are fine, those shouldn’t be gatekept, but at the very least even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting?”

InnerSloth co-founder Marcus Bromander chimed in after Tran, saying that they didn’t patent the gameplay for a reason but felt what Fortnite had done was a slap in the face.

“We didn’t patent the Among Us mechanics. I don’t think that leads to a healthy game industry,” Bromander said.

“Is it really that hard to put 10 per cent more effort into putting your own pin on it though?”

Damn. Seems like this news has hit the Among Us team hard.

Aside from the developers, the official Among Us Twitter page has been active since the announcement about 'Impostors' mode came out, replying to comments asking them about Fornite.

Ngl, I'm really feeling for the Among Us team right now.

The only silver lining to all this is that Fortnite's 'Impostors' mode is playable for a limited time only.
