Amazon to Deliver Groceries, Takeaway Food When It Launches In Australia Next Year

Major US digital retailer, Amazon.com, has revealed what they will be introducing to Australian consumers next year.

After many years of savvy Australian consumers finding ways around shipping restrictions and crazy currency conversions, Amazon has finally revealed they will be introducing a range of different features such as an online takeaway ordering system and a grocery delivery system for Aussies by late 2018.

The Amazon delivery system is called Prime Now and it provides extremely fast shipping to its members on a variety of different household products and restaurant food. So, you could theoretically never leave the house again.

An Amazon executive told Fairfax Media that they intend to launch as many Amazon products as they can in Australia, but one thing that is not in the works for now is the physical store, Amazon Go.

Amazon Go received a lot of attention after it was announced that the store would run off a checkout-less system. Consumers would be able to go into the store, pick up what they need and walk out with the checkout system working through an app.

According to The Seattle Times, Amazon already employs an army of more than 45,000 robots in its factories, so this wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary for the company.

Brittain Ladd, senior manager of Amazon Global Logistics, has said that physical stores are likely to be introduced after Amazon has established itself within the country. This means there's probably not going to be any robot-run stores for us until well after 2018.
