Alan Rickman's Last Masterpiece: Narrating This Clip Of A Tortoise Eating A Strawberry

Shortly before passing away, Alan Rickman lent his inimitable – yet oft-imitated – voice to a video of a tortoise eating a strawberry for charity.

Clarification: the tortoise wasn’t technically eating the strawberry for charity. The tortoise probably doesn’t even realise it exists, let alone grasp the concept of charitable actions. It just likes strawberries.

Rather, it was the makers of the video – a group of Oxford University students – who made the clip in the hopes of raising money for Save the Children and Refugee Council.

By securing Rickman as narrator, as well as one very adorable animal star, they hoped to make the video go viral and give the ad revenue to those charities.

Published on December 13 of 2015, it gathered around 500,000 views before the actor’s unexpected passing on Thursday evening. The viewing numbers have since ballooned to more than 2.5 million.

The students, under the name OneClickGiving, convinced Rickman to participate through a connection.

OneClickGiving founder Oliver Phillips shared with the BBC details of Rickman’s collaboration.

"He could not have been more kind and generous, letting us in, welcoming us, asking us how university was going, he was really great throughout," Phillips said.

So, if you were looking for even more reasons to love the late Alan Rickman, you now have it.
