After 23 Years, Mariah's "All I Want for Christmas" Is Officially a Hit Song in the States

Justice for Mariah.

Despite being the most iconic Christmas song (probably) ever, Mariah Carey's 1994 Navidad banger "All I Want for Christmas" never actually cracked the top 10 of the American charts due to a complication: The song was deemed ineligible because, before 1998, songs that weren't released commercially couldn't chart.

What an injustice.

But 2017 was the year that the past's wrongs were made right. The song finally cracked the Billboard's Top 10 for the first time since it was released 23 years ago. The world is aligned once again. In fact, it's even managed to get to number 16 on the ARIA charts after 24 weeks in (previously peaking at number two).

Back in November of this year, it had cracked the top 60 in the iTunes charts, which wasn't an unusual occurrence for this time of year when the tune gets a high amount of rotations, but little did we know what was to come.

Previous to that, in 2015, the song had charted at number 23 on the Billboard charts, so it just shows that the power of Mimi is eternal.

Merry Christmas Mariah, you finally got what you wanted.
