A Tortoise Escaped a Japanese Zoo and Was Found 140 Metres Away Two Weeks Later

At 35 years old, Aboo, a tortoise from Shibukawa Animal Park in Japan escaped from her enclosure and was on-the-run for two weeks.

But Aboo didn't make it very far. She was found on August 16, about 140 metres from where she made her escape.

She was assumed to be kidnapped because, at a top speed of 0.3 km/ph, it seemed unlikely that Aboo had the capacity to escape. Surveillance footage, however, confirmed that the tortoise did, indeed, make her (painfully slow) leap toward freedom on August 1.

A father and son found her in a bush very close to the scene of her escape without any injuries.

A zoo worker, Yoshimi Yamane, told the Japan Times that she was relieved Aboo was home. "From now on, we'll make sure to take perfect care of our animals," Yamane told Japan Times.

I just hope Aboo felt the wind in her shell for once in her life.
