A Life-Saving Doggo Has Just Been Named 2017's Aus Dog of the Year

A pet-sitting company, Mad Paws, held their first annual (and long overdue) good doggo contest and the best good boy won.

Winners for Australia's Dog of the Year competition were announced for each state alongside a national winner in the contest which saw more than 1,500 fur babies enter.

But there could only ever be one best pooch and that honour was bestowed to an eight-year-old Golden Retriever-cross-Labrador called Jack.

Jack received the big award for literally saving his family's life. Each night, Jack would be let out by his owners, Laura and Scott, for 20 minutes before returning to stay in for the night. On one particular night, Laura and Scott were quite sick so they fell into a deep asleep after letting him out.

They were later awakened after Jack began making unusual noises at the door.

"It wasn't like any noise I'd ever heard him make before," his owner Laura told Mad Paws. "He was running around outside back and forth between our bedroom and the back door, making a really strange noise."

That was when they realised that the house was on fire and the flames had already reached their bedroom door. Thanks to Jack, they got out uninjured and saved most of the house from further damage.

Give the good boy a bone, already.

There were, of course, other less-heroic winners. South Australia's winner, Duncan, won the award for his cute-but-mischievous nature. He swallowed his owner's USB stick and has eaten 12 tea light candles.

I guess we can't all be Jacks.
