5 Books That Will Change Your Life

I'm just a fourteen year old, obsessed with the idea of fictional universes and characters. Books have changed, moulded and shaped the way I am today, and maybe, just maybe, they might do the same for you.

- The Fault in Our Stars, written by John Green has definitely changed my life. Reading this book is like a roller coaster; sometimes you want to get off, but then you want to get straight back on. The Fault in Our Stars is an emotional, engaging and beautiful story about two broken people, slowly falling in love. Hazel, who is diagnosed with lung-cancer and Augustus, who is now cancer free, become closer as both their worlds slowly begin to fall apart. I found myself crying and laughing throughout this masterpiece and it really made me appreciate the little things in life.
- Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief, written by Rick Riordan (also known as "Uncle Rick") introduced me to the life of being a full-fledged fangirl. If you know the feeling of being a part of a fandom (which, now I do), this is one to join. The Lightning Thief will change your perspective of everything! Gods, plot twist, admirable and not-so-admirable characters, all of this leaves you wanting more. The main character, Percy and his friends Annabeth and Grover set of on a journey which will test their loyalty. It starts with a prophecy, destined to define Percy Jackson's fate.
- The Secret Garden written by Francs Hodgson Burnett, was a given to me as present for my ninth birthday, however, I couldn't bring myself to read this book straight away. When I finally did, there was no denying I fell in love with this beautiful, heartfelt and all-in-all completely stunning book immediately. The Secret Garden revolves around Mary; an orphaned girl who is dropped off at her uncle’s doorstep. Mary is certain she won’t enjoy living here, completely spoiled by her cold hearted uncle, until she finds a door leading to an overgrown garden and possibly her uncle’s heart. Now all she needs is the key.
- Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret, written by Judy Bloom. This book moulded me in a way that I can’t describe in words. The main character, Margaret is twelve, the same age I was when I first read this book. The story is about not fitting in and trying to find the place where you belong. When Margaret is invited to join her neighbour’s secret club, she is more than ecstatic. However, when the group of girls begin talking about bras, their first periods and boys, Margaret begins to feel uncomfortable. She doesn’t have boobs or her period, does that make her normal? This book is an amazing story about growing up, going through puberty and having your first crush.
- Everyone has heard of J.K Rowling’s famous book series and if you haven’t, which rock have you been living under? Harry Potter, the book series that changed my life for good. I could sit here list all the different ways my life changed after reading this series, but we'd probably miss the deadline for this writing task. Hogwarts is the school of witchcraft and wizardry; a place of magic, prophecies, Tri-Wizard Tournaments, three headed dogs, wands, giant spiders, curses, muggles, wizards and witches! Learning new spells and defeating the Dark Lord! Everyone wanted to be Harry Potter at some stage, including me. This book series was where it all begun and I have my aunty to thank for introducing me to this, hectic, crazy, insane and sometimes painful life of being a fangirl. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't change it for the world.
