Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I study a double degree at UWA?
Although you can’t study a double degree at UWA, your degree will allow you to complete a major in two areas so that you will be able to obtain two specialisations.  You can combine different majors together to make your degree suited to what you’re passionate about.  There are over 400 different major combinations!
  • Can I study overseas?
Most definitely! All UWA students are encouraged to study abroad and UWA has formal agreements with over 90 universities worldwide. Most students are also eligible for a scholarship to help them during their time overseas.
  • How many hours per week am I expected to be at uni?
This would depend on how many units (subjects) you are studying a semester. A full-time student usually studies four units a semester or eight units in a year. For each unit you would probably have about 3-4 hours in class, although some units would require more time on campus (such as some Engineering or Science units).
  • Can I study a language if I've never studied it before?
Yes, all languages at UWA have a beginner stream for people who have never studied the language before. UWA offers language courses in Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, and Korean. You can also study a few units in Latin and Ancient Greek if you like.
  • What if I don't know what I want to study yet?
That’s perfectly okay! At UWA we won’t ask you to specialise in an area until the end of your first year of study. So that means that you have your whole first year of university to try out different areas that you might be interested in.
