Yas “Queen”: Helen Mirren Casually Confirmed She’s In “Fast 8”

Diesel. Johnson. Statham. Russell. Theron. Now, Mirren.

The baddest of the bad are lining up to star in the eighth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise – titled Fast 8, handily – though none are quite as badass as series newcomer Helen Mirren.

After months of rumours (and sincere prayer), Oscar winner Helen Mirren confirmed to Elle that she’s been cast in Fast 8, due out next year.

She dropped the bombshell, fittingly, while being interviewed about her role in drone drama Eye in the Sky.

“I want to be making film and theater, but film is particularly relevant,” she began.

“I like it to be serious. Of course, having said that I'm about to do Fast and Furious 8. But that's for the fun of it. So maybe that's what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies. “

First of all: Fast 8 is relevant, serious and important, so we’re not entirely sure what distinction she’s trying to draw here.

Second of all: this is happening.

As if that wasn’t enough, Her Royal Badness assuaged any concerns that she might simply be playing some aristocratic observer of vehicular carnage.

“I've always rather loved driving. I said, 'I'll be in it, but only if I'm allowed to drive if I do drive in it.' But we'll see. We'll see how it transpires.”
