"Wreck-It Ralph 2" Is Officially Going To Be A Thing

Disney has revealed plans to make a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph, because our appetite for adorable animated movies is a bottomless chasm into which content must be continually poured.

Disney Animation made the announcement via Facebook Live, with the first film’s director Rich Moore introducing his co-director on the sequel, Phil Johnston, followed by a screaming assortment of Disney staff. (Boy, that seems like a magical place to work.)

John C. Reilly also turns up in the video, seeking almond milk, and eventually announcing the film’s release date (March 2018, y’all). He will once again voice video game villain (with a heart of gold, obvs) Ralph, though we don’t yet know if Sarah Silverman will be back as his spunky pal Vanellope. If not, we riot.

Reilly says Wreck-It Ralph 2 will show Ralph exiting the world of the arcade to wreck the internet. Hopefully, not in the manner Kim Kardashian famously wrecked the internet in 2014.

A sequel to Wreck-It Ralph is somewhat surprising, given that the first movie “only” made $US471 million worldwide. Yes, that’s a lot of money, but when you put it up against Disney’s subsequent billion-dollar grossers Frozen and Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph 2 suddenly doesn’t seem like an immediate priority.

Then again, perhaps Disney looked over at their sister studio Pixar and, spying the massive success of Finding Dory (on track to become the highest grossing animated film in history), thought, “Okay, let’s just make sequels to everything.”

We are not complaining.
